You always know when a writer has done something truly remarkable when their work continues to be loved and expanded upon long after their life ends. This is very much the case with one of my favorite authors; the founder of the Cthulhu mythos, H.P. Lovecraft. I happen to be one of a legion of followers of this creepy, insanity fuelled series of fiction. This being said, I was delighted to see a new game following in the great man’s footsteps preparing to appear on our screens. It’s called Lovecraft’s Untold Stories 2, and it’s due for release this September.
As I’ve just stated Lovecraft is one of the kings of the horror genre and his tales of madness, cults and outer gods have sparked the imaginations of readers for decades. Lovecraft’s Untold Stories 2 will continue the narrative from the cult-classic first game. This being said, we can expect the odds to be stacked pretty heavily against us. In a bid to win out against a tide of insanity-fuelled horror players will now be able to use crafting to create new tools to aid them in their battle against the darkness. You will be able to find blueprints and with the use of resources create consumables and even new equipment.
In Lovecraft’s Untold Stories 2, you’ll switch between the roles of six different characters. Each of these protagonists will offer you a completely different playstyle and can be unlocked as you progress through the story. Fan favorites from the previous installment of this blood-curdling series, the Detective, the Witch, and the Professor, will be making a return in this new battle with the Great Old Ones. Joining these already loved figures, however, will be the Medium, Veteran, and Alienist.
You can expect to reunite with old acquaintances and meet a slew of new characters as you explore procedurally generated locations in this action-heavy romp. Your journey, however, will be far from easy. Your characters will face off against a hoard of different enemies and epic bosses on a mission that will be more deadly than anything you’ve faced previously. The minions of the Old Ones aren’t going to go down without a fight but if you can succeed with your sanity intact you’ll be a hero.
Lovecraft’s Untold Stories 2 will be appearing on your PC, Mac, and Linux fuelled contraptions come September 13th and will be available through Steam, GOG, and Epic Games. If you happen to be a fan of all things Lovecraftian you’ll have an entirely new tale of cosmic horror to sink your teeth into coming your way in the not-too-distant future.
