Atari dropped a new trailer today for the upcoming reimagining of the classic arcade and 2600 game Breakout, entitled Breakout: Recharged. This new version of one my personal favorite Atari classics adds a variety of power ups to the basic gameplay, including homing missiles and a rail gun. Additionally, the game will support local co-op alongside an Endless Mode and a challenge mode. All of this is wrapped in a shiny new coat of neon paint by developers Adamvision Studios and SneakyBox Studios. While this isn’t the first time Atari has tried to bring back Breakout (I remember the polygonal version on the original Playstation fondly), it is definitely a new take.
Breakout: Recharged will be released on February 10th, 2022 for Nintendo Switch, Playstation 4, Playstation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PC (via Steam and Epic Games Store), and Atari’s own Atari VCS. The Atari VCS version will include exclusive content.
