Too Human could still get its trilogy – Silicon Knights

Silicon Knights’ Too Human launched back in 2008 to a kicking from both critics and sales figures alike. The team had been very vocal about their Xbox 360 exclusive being the first part of a trilogy up until then, but the disappointing release has meant that no further game in the series has been seen since.

But not all hope is lost says company boss Denis Dyack. Speaking to GamesIndustry International the dev revealed that sequels could still happen, and that the team will reveal all on May 14. That’s when they’re due to face off with Epic Games in court over failing to provide a working engine for development of Too Human.

“I think as long as Silicon Knights is still around there is still hope,” Dyack said on the subject of a TH sequel. “You know, in some ways Too Human got a bad rap, and there are all kinds of details. A lot of what happened with Too Human is going to come out in the court case, which is May 14.

“So as an example, this is not known at all – I’ll give you something no one’s ever heard before – but four-player co-op was done in 2008. Details of that and all that stuff will come out [in the court case].”

Interestingly enough, the team’s current projects are all on next-gen systems, meaning Dyack is referring to the 360 as ‘last-gen’ tech.

“Bottom-line, and this is pretty public, we went through hell last generation by trying to adopt the Unreal Engine. It hurt us so dramatically that it affected us a lot, all the way through. You know, we’re hoping to fix that this gen. We’ve suffered a lot, that’s all I can say,” he said.

“We’re really excited and we’re working on our next generation stuff. We’re working on an IP that’s our most requested and we’re really excited about that.”

“We’re smaller, obviously,” he said referring to layoffs, “and we’re going back to our roots. I’m really looking forward to a point in time when we can talk about it, it’s just not today. That’s the current state of things. I think the state of our demise has been greatly exaggerated. Here we are. We’re here.”

Such rumors of demise came about after the disappointment of X-men: Destiny, the studio’s most recent game that was released last year. Far more exciting than the return of Too Human, though, is the suggested resurrection of the Eternal Darkness series, which was developed on Gamecube.
