Minecraft, with all of its natural beauty, is full of flowers. In fact, there are 17 different types, each with a unique style and color.

This classic game boasts a vivid and lively environment filled with most elements of nature you can find IRL. Among these features, flowers stand out as a particularly sweet and decorative element – with both aesthetic and functional uses.

If you are keen on exploring the beauty and potential of Minecraft flowers, this guide is the ultimate resource for you. You’ll learn where to find each flower type, and what exactly they can all be used for.

What are Flowers in Minecraft? What are They for?

Flowers are a type of plant that naturally spawn in the Minecraft world.

They have a few different uses:

  • They can be used for flower pattern banners.
  • Used in making dyes of various colors, which in turn have a range of uses, from coloring blocks to armor.
  • Used to make suspicious stew – Using different flowers will give the stew a unique effect based on the flower used.

Each flower and its unique uses are listed below!

Where to Find Flowers in Minecraft

The best place to find flowers is in flower forest biomes. These have the largest concentration of flowers – and have the most species.

You can identify a flower forest biome by the high density of flowers.

Mountain meadow biomes are another good place to look for more beautiful flowers.

We’ll share the locations where each flower spawns in the list below.

Flower Mechanics

Flowers have a range of interesting mechanics.

  • Sunflowers work as a compass, as they always grow facing east.
  • Flowers can also be used for breeding. Bees can be primed for breeding by feeding them any flower. Rabbits can be bred using dandelions, which will also lead them, and grow them from babies to adults.
  • Bees interact with flowers, having a pollinating effect, and creating more honey in bee hive or bee nest.
  • Using bone meal on a grass block will create a bunch of tall grass and certain flowers.
  • If an oak or birch tree grows as a sapling while having any flower within two blocks, it is given a 5% chance to grow a bees nest with up to three bees in it.
  • You can plant flowers in flower pots, which is a nice way of decorating your minecraft builds. you can make flowerpots out of three bricks, which are made by smelting a clay ball.

Obtaining

Breaking a flower with any tool will drop it as an item.

All Types of Flowers in Minecraft

Here are all of the flowers found in Minecraft, as of V1.19.

It’s worth noting, that almost all of these flower types can be found within flower forest biomes. Unlike other flowers, the only flowers which you won’t find in flower forests are sunflowers, blue orchids, and the fearful wither rose.

Dandelion

Y

ou can find Dandelions in plains, sunflower plains, flower forests, and forest biomes.

Dandelions can be used to make yellow dye.

Poppy

Poppy

Poppies are found mostly in sunflower plains, but also in regular plains and flower forest biomes.

Poppies can be used to make red dye.

Blue Orchid

all minecraft flowers, Blue Orchid

Equally as rare in Minecraft as in real life, you can find Blue Orchids in swamp biomes and swamp hills biomes.

Besides decoration, the only use for Blue Orchids is to make light blue dye.

Allium

all minecraft flowers, Allium

These round pink flowers are found in flower forest biomes, although they are more common in a magenta flower forest.

Alliums can only be used to make magenta dye, or as a cute little decoration.

Azure Bluet

all minecraft flowers, Azure Bluet

Azure Bluet flowers can only be found in flower biomes. Don’t let the name confuse you, these can only be used to make light grey dye, although you might think they were blue, having the words azure and bluet in their name…

Red Tulip

Red Tulip

Red tulips are found in plains, sunflower plains, and flower forest biomes in Minecraft, and can be tried used to make red dye.

All Tulip types can also be found potted in villages.

Orange Tulip

Orange Tulip

You can find orange Tulips in plains, sunflower plains, and flower forest biomes. These cute flowers can be used to make orange dye.

White Tulip

White Tulip

Crispy white Tulips can are also found in plains, sunflower plains, and flower forest biomes, and can be used to make light gray dye.

Pink Tulip

Pink Tulip

Sweet pink Tulips are found mostly in plains, sunflower plains, and flower forest biomes.

These are used for crafting pink dye.

Oxeye Daisy

Oxeye Daisy

Oxeye Daisies are one of the rarest plants in the game, and can be tricky to find, but you will be lucky to find them, but only in plains, sunflower plains, and flower forest biomes.

These rare flowers are used to craft light gray dye, or as decoration, like most other flowers in the game.

Cornflower

all minecraft flowers, Cornflower

Cornflowers are most common in plains biomes, although you can also find them in mountain meadows, a sunflower plain, or the classic flower forests.

You can also create cornflowers in these biomes using bonemeal, and they are used as an ingredient for making blue dye.

Lily of the Valley

all minecraft flowers, Lily of the Valley

Lily of the Valley is one of the newest flowers added to the game and can be found in flower forests, woodlands, and cherry blossom grove biomes. These can either be used for making white dye, or as a decoration.

Wither Rose

Wither Rose

Wither Roses are unique and creepy flowers that aren’t found in the same way as others. Whenever a Wither kills any mob (in the overworld or Nether), a Wither Rose is spawned.

These nasty flowers can either be used to create black dye, or as a crafting ingredient for suspicious stew. Wither roses inflict damage when other mobs touch them, which is a unique property.

Sunflower

Sunflower

Sunflowers are another relatively rare flower, and can only be found in sunflower plains biomes – which aren’t easy to discover. One sunflower will create two yellow dyes.

Lilac

all minecraft flowers, Lilac

Lilacs are a type of two-block tall flower and are most common in grassy biomes and flower forests. These are used to create magenta dye.

Rose Bushes

Rose Bushes

Rose bushes are only found in flower forest biomes and do not have any crafting uses, their only function is for decoration.

Peony

Peony

Peonies are most commonly found in forests and plains biomes. These also have no uses besides decoration.

Conclusion

Most flowers in Minecraft are pretty easy to find, so if you fancy yourself as a bit of a green thumb – you should have no trouble making a nice collection of flowers.

Besides being used for decoration, certain flowers in Minecraft have a bunch of uses in crafting, or as ingredients for dyes.

Enjoy your flower hunting sessions and getting decorative. These look super sweet in clay pots!

FAQs About Minecraft’s Flower Types

What are the 2 Rarest Flowers in Minecraft?

The two rarest flowers in Minecraft are Oxeye daisies (which are the rarest), and Allium, which are the second rarest flower in the game.

What are the Pink Flowers in Minecraft Called?

There are a couple of different pink flowers in Minecraft, these are pink Tulips, alliums, and Peonies. Rose bushes also have a pinkish hue. Besides peonies, all of these pink flowers are used to make either pink or magenta dye, which can be used to color wool, and other items in the game.

What are the Nicest Flowers in Minecraft?

Like many things in life, true beauty is in the eye of the beholder, so it’s hard to say exactly which is the nicest.

Most of the flowers in Minecraft have a nice aesthetic, even more so when you upgrade the texture pack of your game.

Some of our favorite flowers are the rose bush, Allium, and Lily of the Valley – although ultimately it’s a matter of personal taste. Look through the gallery above to all of the different flowers available in the game.
