Raia Nova readies for battle

I think I can safely say that we all love a free game. I’m not talking about any of this free-to-play, pay-to-win nonsense either. Plenty of shovelware is polluting the gaming space pretending to be something it isn’t. I’m talking actually free. This is where the devs give us a completely free, playable game without any tricks or underhanded antics and just ask for a small donation. This might appear in the form of some DLC or in the case of the title we’ll be looking at today a supporter pack. These are things that are more of a thank-you for giving us a great game than us emptying our pockets just to progress in what we’ve already been given. If more dev teams did this I think the gaming landscape would look a lot different and as players, we’d be much more willing to spend that little bit just as a note of appreciation. This doesn’t sound like much but when thousands of players are doing this they are supporting the game. Nobody is being greedy and everybody wins. I’m making this point because today’s title is Raia Nova and it’s fitting this rarely seen but much-loved archetype. It would appear that we really can get something for nothing.

Raia Nova will be appearing on our PC screens over on Steam from tomorrow, February 18th for the princely sum of nothing at all. Importantly, this title isn’t coming into Early Access. This is going to be a full release with the added option of purchasing a supporter pack, and even this is coming with a launch day discount. If you like what you see and are enjoying yourself this is a great way of giving the devs a pat on the back.

Raid Nova is an ARPG that sees the warriors and mages of the Mercury Scepter Tournament battle and spill blood while under a mysterious spell. You will choose your hero and journey through worlds of challenging combat as you evolve and customize them and their powers.

Equipped items grant skills, or enhance your abilities. Each character comes with their own progression trees allowing for complex builds and strategies that will suit a variety of playstyles. Raia Nova also features crafting, achievements and rewards, end game progression and more.

In Raia Nova players can expect classic ARPG gameplay with equippable spells and difficult bosses. Enhancers exist to power up your favorite skills and the rune tree is there to help you progress and customize your character. Speaking of which, there are five unique characters to take into battle. These include Krin the Spellsword, Mothball the Magician, and Dweller the Warden. Each of these comes with its own unique ultra-skill that will have a big effect on gameplay, as well as specific startup skill combos.

Players will find that missions in Raia Nova will have unique mechanics and that their goals and challenges will vary. You will have to use everything at your disposal if you are to make it through the hordes of monsters and weird bosses waiting to end you.

If you happen to be a fan of the ARPG genre, Raia Nova might be worth a look. As this is an entirely free title you won’t be losing any of your hard-earned cash if it doesn’t float your boat. On the other hand, if you get involved and love this game it might be worth taking a look at the supporter pack as a small token of thanks for an enjoyable experience. Either way, Raia Nova is going to be waiting in Steam for you from tomorrow. As I happen to be a big fan of ARPGs myself, there’s a very good chance I’ll see you there.

Open the bio of Alex Southgate

Hailing from Southport England, Alex started his gaming career in the late 80s on a Commodore 64. Since that time he's either owned or played on virtually every console released. Alex happens to be one of that rare breed of gamers just as happy and comfortable in front of a PC screen as a PS4 and has a massively diverse and eclectic love of genres.

We also think something may have snapped somewhere along the line as topping his favourite things to do in a game is getting killed. Rogue likes and games that make death not only a really good thing to do but mandatory are at the top of his love list.

When not glued to a screen as a gamer Alex is glued to the screen as a DJ, so picking the right gaming playlist is almost as important to him as actually playing the game. Evidently getting murdered to the right soundtrack is what all the kids are doing these days.
