Rare turns 25, gets rebranded

Perfect Dark, Goldeneye, Banjo, Viva Pinata and Kameo developer Rare is getting a facelift.

The Microsoft-owned studio is celebrating its 25th anniversary this summer, so what better time “to have a new image more in keeping with an innovative and creative entertainment company which aspires to be around for at least the next 25 years,” as studio head Mark Betteridge puts it.

While it hasn’t quite hit the mark with its latest releases, Rare played a big part in launching the Xbox 360’s revamped dashboard in 2008; namely, they designed the Avatars.

What the studio is working on now isn’t known, though it’s widely believed to have something ready for Project Natal‘s launch later this year.
